The Question of Identity

According to the History of Clan Muirhead, James Muirhead of Lauchope, VII and his wife Janet Hamilton had a son named Alexander Muirhead. History of Clan Muirhead

Again, according to Clan Muirhead: "Alexander Muirhead, son of James and Janet Muirhead, married Eupham Jervey ". It is not categorically stated to be the case, that "Janet Muirhead" is the same person as Janet Hamilton although it is certainly implied that it was the son of James Muirhead of Lauchope, VII and his wife Janet Hamilton who went on to marry Eupham Jervey

It should be noted, however, that this proposition is not supported by Alexander Nisbet's account of the family, A System of Heraldry II: 256-66 or by Bernard Burke's account, The Landed Gentry of Great Britain and Ireland for 1863: 1050-51 and no mention is made of a son named Alexander for James Muirhead of Lauchope, VII and his wife Janet Hamilton in Stirnet's review of the published evidence.
