Alexander Daniel Patterson, born in Kentucky in 1795, was of Scotch or Scotch-Irish descent. He may have been the son of Alex Patterson, who owned land in Fayette Co., Kentucky, on Aug. 4, 1789. According to Charles Brunk Heinemann's First Census of KY, there were four other Pattersons in Fayette Co. at this time—Ezekiel, John, Joseph, & Matthew. Still other Pattersons who owned land in Kentucky at this time included William (Lincoln Co.), James (Bourbon), James & John (Jefferson), & Matthew (Woodford). By 1800, sixty Pattersons owned land in Kentucky, according to Garrett Glenn Clift's "Second Census" of KY, 1800. On July 22, 1800, an Alexander Patterson was the only Patterson who lived in Christian Co., Kentucky.

An Alexander Patterson married Lydia Vears, Jan. 9, 1817, Hardin Co., Kentucky.

Note: The 1830 Federal Census for Bedford Co. shows a Daniel Patterson, on page 129, with a [wife, 30-40] & five young children, all under the age of 10, lived in Bedford Co. It may be that this is Alexander Daniel Patterson, who may have lost his first family and, at age 36, married a widow with five young children. Nearly all of the original Pattersons in Bedford Co. were born in North Carolina & not in Kentucky. Robert A. Patterson, however, (born ca 1801, KY) lived in the area his part of Bedford Co. was renamed Marshall Co. in 1835 in 1840 & 1850, as did Margareta Patterson (born ca 1787, KY).

Three or four small unmarked graves are beside Alexander's & Elizabeth's tombstones in Dadeville. These graves were located by John Wesley Patterson, son of Archibald Clinton Patterson & Sarah Prudella Fanning, & his wife, Erma O. Landreth Patterson, in the 1950s when they decided to clean up & maintain Rice Cemetery, which was across the road from their farm in Dadeville. John had not been aware that his grandparents were buried there.
