Alford married Elizabeth Loy, daughter of John "Fisher" Loy and Nancy Miller, on 15 July 1831 in Sharp's Chapel. They were parents to a large family of ten children.
At the time of his death, Alford was buried in Union Co. at the Lon Sharp Cemetery. His grave was moved to New Loyston in 1935 as part of the Norris Reservoir Project.
