Since in Alfred's death record lost at sea, it says that his father was Joseph, born in Ipswich, this is probably the right one. I checked the Ipswich Printed Vitals and found this possible ancestry.

Lost Overboard
On the said day schooner Lucille Curtis, from Georges' arrived and reports the loss of one of her men, Mr. Alfred Adams, of this town, who was washed off the bowsprit and drowned. He leaves a wife and four children. The number of vessels lost this year is the largest of any one year thus far from this port, being fifteen. Number of lives, forty-four"
