About Alfred Brooks
GEDCOM Note
[Montgomerie.FTW]
Alfred and his parents Joseph and Elizabeth travelled to Portsmouth & immigrated to Australia. After waiting a month they sailed on the ship Eden and arrived in Holdfast Bay on 24 June 1838 after a 4 month ship voyage. This mean they were Pioneers of South Australia. Captain was Cooke W.D. There were two hundred and fifty paying passengers. Conditions were hard, water was in short supply and all washing was done in salt water. They rode out a storm for 6 days at Holdfast Bay and then walked to Adelaide. Alfred married Mary Ann Whiting at her father?s residence in Phillipstown, Chain of Ponds, SA. He died of thirst out in the bush some-where near Orroroo.
