Alfred F. Chalk, Sr. (called Frank) met his future wife, Ollie Finley, when
they both attended Baylor University in Waco, TX. Frank got his Masters
Degree in Economics from Baylor in 1918 and Ollie graduated from
Baylor also. Frank taught in high schools in very small towns throughout
Texas and New Mexico. Ollie also taught.≤/line>≤line />≤line>After his death (he shot himself when he realized he probably had incurable cancer) in 1946, she continued to live
in McAllen, Texas, where they had a fruit orchard, but in 1956 she came
to live with her only son, Alfred Franklin Chalk, Jr. in Bryan, Texas. She had her own apartment connected to the garage of the home at 4209 Maywood Drive in Bryan, TX.≤/line>≤line />≤line>Ollie Chalk developed Alzheimers in about 1962 and, since there were no nursing homes in Bryan or College Station at the time, she went to stay in a nursing home in Waco. Her son, A. F. Chalk, Jr. visited her weekly.
She died in 16 April, 1963. Her son, A. F. Chalk died of colon cancer at home in Bryan on 20 September, 1985.
His widow, Marie Chalk, lived at the Maywood address until she needed to move to an assisted living place in Bryan, TX, due to constant falls. She moved in about 2001 and remained there until her death from Parkinson's Disease in January, 2006.≤/line>≤line />≤line>WW One Draft Registration Cards 1917-1918, Alfred Franklin Chalk born 15 Oct 1882, registered in Quay County, Tucumcari, N. M. He signed this card 10 September, 1918. Listed occupation as "Teacher". Under "Employer's Name" he listed "not contracted". Said he was age 35 born 15 October 1882. Listed nearest relative as "Ollie Finley Chalk, Logan, New Mexico".
