About Alfred Goldhammer
Alfred Goldhammer is both my father's uncle (through Alfred Goldhammer's second wife, Regina Rosenzweig) and my father's great-uncle (Alfred is the brother of my father's grandfather, Ignatz Goldhammer).
He came to the United States on October 16,1908 with is first wife, Lena, and his two eldest children, Ethel and Fritz.
On the Ellis Island website Ethel and Fritz's name are shown as Etel and Frigyes and Lena's name is Alfredne
The ship was the Carpathia and they departed from Fiume which is now a port in Croatia. At the time, Georgenberg was part of the Austo-Hungarian Empire.
On Jewishgen.org his first name is given as Ascher and Alfred LDS 1739204, Item 7
While Alfred's birth records thru jewishgen.org shows his being born in Georgenberg, his marriage license to Regina lists his birthplace as Szepesszombat which is the Hungarian equivalent. The city is now called Spišská Sobota as part of the nation of Slovakia.
Alfred's occupation on his wedding license to Regina Rosenzweig is tailor and his residence was 231 East 117 Street.
