About Alfred Philip Hoffman
Alfred “Al” Hoffman, 65, Mandan, died June 6, 2012, at his residence. Burial will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Al was born on April 6, 1947, to Timothy and Katie (Kary) Hoffman Sr. in Bismarck. He was raised and educated in Fort Yates, graduating from Fort Yates High School in 1965. Al helped his Dad on the farm after graduation. Al married the love of his life, Marlene Kraft, on July 8, 1967, at St. Philomena’s in Selfridge. Al and Marlene moved to Mandan after their marriage where they raised their family. He worked for Dakota Ready Mix and Bis-Man Transit until his retirement in May of 2007.
Al enjoyed working with his hands doing woodworking; he especially liked making birdhouses which he would give away. His family was very important to him and he loved holidays especially Christmas when the family would gather together. Al like playing cards and was fond of the dice game Farkle.
Al will be deeply missed by his wife of 45 years, Marlene; his daughters, Denise (Jeff) Christensen, Mandan, and Mary (Nate) Schlag, Bismarck; his sons, Joseph, Mandan, and David, Almont; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and another on the way; his sisters, Agnes (Joe) Heck, Baker City , Ore., and Ann (Ray) Ternes, Portland, Ore.; his brother, Harold (Lyla) Hoffman, Fargo; his sisters-in-law, Catherine Hoffman, Aberdeen, S.D., and Dorothy Hoffman, Mandan; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his special friend, his dog, Shadow.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eleanor Horning; his brothers, Ed, Steve, Ben and Tim Jr.
