Alfred Kohlman

Alfred Kohlman, 88, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at his home in Village Shalom. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday June 25, at The Louis Memorial Chapel. Burial Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Contributions in memory of his life may be sent to The Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah or Village Shalom.

Alfred was born Nov. 17, 1921, in Neustadt, Germany, and came to the United States in 1938 at the age of 16. Al was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and friend. He was committed to his family, his community, his love of Judaism and the synagogue.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley; his parents, Johanna and Julius Kohlmann; and his brother-in-law, Norman Henkin.

He leaves his daughters, Janet Sear (Alan); Rosanne Rosen (Howard); his grandchildren, Jennifer Schaffer (Jeremy) and Stephen Sear (Stephanie).

He also leaves his sister-in-law, Helen Henkin; brother-in-law, Daniel Henkin (Mary); nieces, nephew, great-nieces and nephews; as well as his many family, friends as well as family by choice.

The family would like to express its gratefulness to the kindness and compassion of the Village Shalom staff. We could not have gone through the past few months without their kindness and support.
