About Alfred Connell Krob

From the Minutes of the Fifty-Third Annual Reunion of Descendants of the Alexander Hirzel-Studer Families, June 25, 1978:

In Memoriam —Alfred Connell Krob

Alfred Connell Krob, son of Elsie Hirzel Krob and Harry Krob, was born August 13, 1906 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. At the age of six his family moved to Toledo, Ohio, where Alfred attended grade school, graduating from Sherman School in 1920. The following year he enrolled in Woodward High, graduating in 1924.

He entered the employment of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company in August of 1924, remaining with them for forty seven years. He was held in high regard, advancing to positions as instructor, chief repeater supervisor and chief method engineer.

In July of 1943 he enlisted in the army and received a commission of First Lt. in the Signal Corps. Here too, he made advancements and upon discharge had been promoted to Major. Alfred received the Bronze Star and his company, a unit citation. He served in England, France and Germany.

During his time of employment in Toledo, Alfred was a faithful member of the Swiss Singers (holding office for several years in the Helvetia Maennerchor) the Swiss Athletic Club and the Toledo Swiss Mens Society.

In 1951, on May 26th, Alfred married Laurene Ann Kost, and to this union, four children were born: Elizabeth Ann, Kathy Marie, Barbara Jean and John Alfred. Twenty seven years of happy marriage and home life passed before Alfred was called home May 1, 1978.

Besides his lovely wife and children, he is survived by sisters, Mrs. Elsie Witgen and Mrs. Marie Koehler, to whom he was known to be always faithful to God, country and family.

Til the day of sweet reunion, may God bless him and may he rest in peace. Alfred was interred in the Long Island National Veterans Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York.

Although unable to attend the final services, all the family keenly feel our loss of this member and extend deepest sympathy to his surviving family. Alfred's sisters Elsie and Marie are setting a marker stone in the Krob area of the family plot at Lake Township Cemetery, to Alfred's memory. (credit to Marie Koehler for most of the above obituary)
