About Alfred Rothwell Mark

He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was killed when his Lancaster bomber crashed (at Manibach) near the target - ball bearing factories in Schweinfurt, Bavaria, Germany. It was a bombing raid consisting of 734 RAF bombers and his bomber (that took off from Binbrook, Lincolnshire at 8.24pm on 24 Feb) was one of the 33 lost. His was 460 (B) Squadron (RAAF) and he was the bomb aimer with the rank Flying Officer. Service number: J/25770. One of the 7 crew was a fellow RCAF airman - Pilot Officer Leo Lorne Norman De Celles (son of Leo and Maud De Celles of Montreal while Alfred's parents were listed as being of Victoria, British Columbia). Sergeant Donald Halke was the flight engineer. The crew were buried in Durnbach War Cemetery, Durnbach, Bavaria (after having been buried first in Schweinfurt Cemetery and exhumed).
