About Alfred W. Spilker

Alfred W. Spilker, 86, of the Sycamore Healthcare Centre, formerly of 425 Noel Court, died at 3:55 p.m. Friday (Sept. 19, 2008) in Sycamore Healthcare Centre. Born Sept. 23, 1921, in Quincy, Alfred was a son of Harry and Anna Young Spilker. He married Mildred "Millie" Keller on Dec. 26, 1948, in Quincy. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2001. Alfred was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39 and the Gardner Denver Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid Quincy High Blue Devils and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Mr. Spilker served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, seeing action in in the Ardennes and Rhineland and receiving three Bronze Battle Stars. A graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College, Alfred was employed for more than 30 years in the Repair Order Department of Gardner Denver Company. He retired in 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Carole Glosemeyer and her husband, Tom, of Quincy; a son, Ronald Spilker and his wife, Joy, of Quincy; four grandchildren, Ted Glosemeyer and his wife, Michelle, of Montgomery, Kelle Glosemeyer and her fiance, Ross Beswick, of Quincy, Brianna Spilker of Quincy and Kenny Rawlings of Quincy; a great-grandchild, Ashton Beswick; a sister, Ella M. Spilker of Quincy; a sister-in-law, Ethel Keller of Carlinville; a brother-in-law, Robert Keller of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Spilker was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Millie; a brother, Harold Spilker; a nephew, Kenneth Spilker; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Keller and Dorothy Spilker. SERVICES: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Chaplain Steve Disseler. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery. VISITATION: 4-7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday until services in the funeral home.
