About Alfred Yoakum
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/178799747/alfred_yokum
Alfred Yoakum married Catherine Bonner before 1832 in Randolph County, Virginia. She is the mother of two of Alfred's children; American Ann b. 1834 and Emily b. 1839.
By 1841, Alfred was having the first of his half dozen children with Maria Bills. America Ann and Emily's marriage license both lists their last name as Bonner, their mother as Catharine Bonner and no father listed. It leads me to believe Alfred and Catharine were never married. Catharine continued to use the last name of Bonner, even as late as the 1880 census.

Looking at this picture Alfred Yoakum is on the far left, standing farther back from the other three men, so he doesn't look so tall. The other three men are all of the Lambert family. This picture is published in book, History of the Lambert & Bonner Families with Information of the Bright, Carr, and Yoakum Families, written by Oscar Doane Lambert, Published by: Whitney & White, Morgantown, WV, 1958.

s/o Michael 1771-1854 & Betsy Stump Yokum
Michaels' home place was 3 miles from Moorefield by a deed. He died in the West district of Hardy which most likely was in Moorefield area.
In 1977 the rocks for the Yokums were still in this cemetery by info of a local man. They since have been removed. Not sure of the exact number. Another local lady tells me that her mother always said Yokums were buried here. The info that I received was that Squire or Solomon K Nelson had bought this property from the Yokums.
1850 census Alfred and Maria Yokum were in Missouri but they also show up in Virginia, by 1860 they were back in Grant county at Laurelton area.
1849 Alfred buys 251 ac on Walkers Ridge from Michael Yokum
1855 Alfred buys 57 ac from Christopher & Mary Yokum on the West side of Jordan Run, on the Michael Yokum line.
1855 Alfred buys several tracts from Daniel C M. Shell on Jordan Run
In 1880 Solomon K Nelson buys 388 ac from Henry and Dennis Yokum, heirs of Alfred which was described as Alfred Yokums' home place.
In the 1860 census Alfred is worth $14,000 for land and $7,000 for belongings.
I understand that a local man had removed the log house and has put it back together at his home.
