Alfreda Christina Spooner

Alfreda Christina (Lorenz) Spooner, 84, of Pierson passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at a hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 4 p.m., followed by a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Alfreda was born June 25, 1926, in Loma, Neb., to Frank and Margaret (Krumel) Lorenz. She grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where she graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School and Mercy School of Radiology.

On Sept. 8, 1949, she was married to Warren Spooner. Warren and Alfreda started their life together in Pisgah, Iowa, later moving to Pierson, Iowa, when Warren bought the Pierson John Deere Implement. Warren passed away in 1971. Alfreda worked at McQueen Soft Water in Pierson before returning to school for her LPN. She worked at the Kingsley Nursing Home for many years until her retirement.

Alfreda's life revolved around her family and her Catholic faith.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Christy) of West Des Moines, Iowa, Kathy (Jim) McMahon of Sioux Falls, S.D., Janie (Rick) White of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Mary (Steve) Schweitzberger of Sioux Falls, S.D., Bob (Ann) of St. Louis, Mo., Tom of Pierson, and Patty (Bud) Herbold of Pierson; grandchildren, Ted, Will, Paul and Zoey Spooner, Cory (Jessica) McMahon, Gina (Addison) McMahon-Johnston, Jay (Sarah) McMahon, Tammy (Chris) White-Dodd, Brady White, Mike Schweitzberger, Elizabeth (Jolin) Schweitzberger-Carlson, Emily (Cory) Schweitzberger-Stephens, Phillip, Dani and Jess Herbold; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; parents; grandson, Matthew Schweitzberger; granddaughter, Lauren Herbold; two brothers, Francis and James; and one sister, Margaret.
