Clara Alice Riddle was born on April 8, 1853 in Canyonville (now Riddle) Pct., Douglas Co., Oregon 1,9. She died on October 10, 1855 in Canyonville (now Riddle) Pct., Douglas Co., Oregon 1,9. She is buried in the Riddle Cemetery, Riddle, Douglas Co., Oregon.William and Maxamillia had one child after moving to Oregon: Clara.

THEY MUST MEAN THAT CLARA WAS BORN ON THEIR, 320 acre, FARM KNOWN AS "Glenbrook Farms". There were no towns in the area, in 1853. That came about several years later. But, first, John B.[1844] and his brother, Abner [1841] Riddle had to grow up and surey the land for the town. Roseburg was the closest town. It was also a seat of government and had the United States [Oregon Territorial] Land Office. Perhaps the next town to form was Canyonville. Jessie Roberts would soon build a flour mill there along with a hotel. Soon gold would be found in the hills and valleys of Southern Oregon and many thousands would stampede into the area. By the end of 1852 most of the good farm land was spoken for.
