About Alice Clerk

John married Agnes Graunger, the daughter Thomas Graunger (d.1510) a London Alderman, at the Church of St. Giles, Cripplegate, London, on the 24th April 1474. They had six children, four of whom lived to maturity: Joanna (b.1475-1542), Thomas (1478-1535), John (1479/80-1512) and Elizabeth (1482-1536). When Agnes died in 1499, she was buried next to her brother-in-Law, Abel More, in the Church of St. Michael Bassishaw in Basinghall Street, London, where there was a monument to their name. The Church and its monuments were destroyed in the Fire of London and, although rebuilt afterwards, it was finally demolished in 1900. After Agnes' death, John went on to three further marriages, all to widows: Joan Marshall (d.1505), Joan Bowes (d.1520) & Alice Clerk. His last wife, Alice, was by birth the daughter of John More of Losely, Surrey.
