About Alice Catherine Engelmeyer

Alice Engelmeyer, age 76, of Foley, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 surrounded by her family at the Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Augusta.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church, Foley. The Rev. Daniel Walz will officiate. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 Sunday at the Foley Funeral Home in Foley and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Parish prayers will be at 5 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home.

Alice Engelmeyer was born April 8, 1936 in Greenwald, MN to Conrad and Veronica (Blenker) Nietfeld. She married Peter Engelmeyer on June 8, 1955 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Greenwald, MN. The couple moved to the Foley area in 1955. Alice was the Deputy County Recorder for Benton Co before serving as the County Recorder until she retired in 2001. In addition to being treasurer of the Minnesota County Recorders Association, she was named Minnesota County Recorder of the Year. She was director of the Great River Regional Library and member of the Benton Co Historical Society where she served on the Board of Directors. Alice was a member of the Foley Kiwanis; past 4-H Leader; a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, entertaining, playing cards and loved attending events of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Peter, Foley; sons and daughters; Yvonne Scheeler, Sartell; Steve (Julie), Elk River; Michael (Donna), St. Anthony; Mary (Al) DeLong, Grey Eagle; Brian (Rebecca), Sartell; Robert (Carla), Bemidji; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, sister, Mary Ann Schulzetenberg, Melrose and brother, Bernard, Greenwald.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Rose Meyer.
