Alice was born in Sandhurst, Victoria to Jane Stevens and James Henry Johns.
She was to marry, but tragically her fiance was killed on the way to the wedding, falling of his horse and breaking his neck. Unfortunately, family stories do not name him.
Alice became a governess and travelled all over the world with the family she worked for. She sent many gifts and postcards from exotic locations.
She had auburn hair and was well known for her beautiful needlework.
When her younger sister Ethel was widowed, and their only brother died, Alice went to the goldfields to help run the bakery.
Later in life Alice cared for her mother Jane.
Alice died on the 27th June 1960 at Victoria Park, Western Australia. She is buried at Karrakatta.
