About Alice Luella Keith

OBITUARY - Ochiltree County Herald (TX)-September 13, 1945

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank KEITH, 73, pioneer woman of the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle, will be held at the First Christian Church in Perryton at 3 p.m. Friday with Rev. Ward H. N. Gregg officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree cemetery beside her husband and son, who preceded her in death several years ago.

Mrs. KEITH died suddenly at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 after only about 15 minutes illness. She had been in failing health for about a year. On the day before her death, she attended the annual meeting of the Pioneers of No Man's Land Society at Beaver, Okla., spending a very happy day renewing friendships with that group of pioneer men and women who laid the foundation for the rich, agricultural empire of the Southwest.
Mrs. KEITH had resided with her daughter, Mrs. Van W. STEWART since Mr. KEITH's death, Feb. 5, 1940. she is survived by the one daughter; a sister, Mrs. Hank EUBANK, Canjilon, N. M. and one grandaughter, Miss Carmen KEITH, Perryton.
Thus another Southwest pioneer mother passes on. Mrs. KEITH, born in Arkansas, lived in Kansas in early girlhood, coming to this county in 1886. On Nov. 22, 1893, she was married to Frank KEITH, one of the early day cowpunchers. Two children blessed this union, a daughter, Jessie, now Mrs. Van W. STEWART; and a son, Kramer, who died in early manhood.
In 1903, the KEITH family, like many early day ranchers in the Southwest, lost their herd of cattle in the destructive blizzard that swept the Plains. They moved to Topeka, Kansas where they resided until 1916 when they returned to their Beaver River ranch. Here they lived until 1924 when they moved to Perryton, In 1932, Mr. and Mrs. KEITH moved to near Canjilon, N. M., where they once more engaged in ranching. After Mr. KEITH's death in 1940, Mrs. KEITH leased the ranch and made her home in Perryton* Reference: [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/29778508/alice-luella-keith Find A Grave Memorial] - [https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783 SmartCopy]: ''Dec 1 2023, 21:35:22 UTC''
