OBIT from the Daily Press, Newport News, Virginia 24 Aug 1930: HOLD RITES FOR MRS.TOWNSEND TODAY AT 11 A.M Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Post Townsend, 77 years of age, who died very suddenly from an acute heart attack Saturday night, will be held this morning at 11 o'clock from the home, 2906 West Avenu e. Her grandsons will act as pallbearers. The Rev. T. H. Dimmock, pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church, will officiate, to be assisted by the Rev. A. J. Dickinson, of the First Baptist Church. I nterment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Townsend was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1853 and moved to York County when a girl 12 years of age. She lived for 35 years on the old historic farm of Porto Bello, seven miles from Williamsburg , where her first husband, John J. Hovey died in 1884 and her second husband, James H. Townsend died in 1892. She has lived with her daugther, Mrs. J. E. Wilkins, for the past 30 years. Mrs. Townsend is survived by one other daughter, Miss Blanche Townsend of Williamsburg; two sons, John J. Hovey of York County and Charles M. Hovey of Hampton; two brothers, Harry C. Post, of York Cou nty, and Frank G. Post of Buckroe Beach; one sister, Mrs. Zedric Townsend of Middlesex County, 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren She was a member of the first Presbyterian Church and in the absence of the pastor, Dr. E. T. Wellford Mr. Dimmock and Mr. Dickinson will officiate at the funeral.
