The son of Col. Stephen Mack, the founder of Pontiac, and his wife Temperance Bond. Almon Mack was a twin; his sister was Almira Mack (one of the first converts to the Mormon church in 1830). Almon Mack's cousin was the prophet and founder of the Mormon church (LDS) Joseph Smith.
"A favorite among the early settlers of Avon was Almon Mack. He came from Pontiac in 1831, opened a store, and became a member of the state legislature."
