About Alonzo Hazeltine Raleigh

Marriages:

"...As noted, first wife Mary Ann Tabor died at age 21. Caroline Lucy Curtis was second, she died Mar 26, 1853. Julia came into the household when she was 18 to care for his sick wife, her cousin Caroline. At that time there were two plural wives, Elizabeth Yearsly and Nancy Redden Raleigh. Julia Curtis was Alonzo's fourth wife and married after Caroline's death, on May 17, 1853. She had two other children besides Sarah Joiner; her first child James Alonzo Raleigh and second child Mary Blanchard (Blanche) Raleigh. Blanche's daughter includes in Julia's history that great heartache came to her because of polygamy. Four days before Blanche was born, Alonzo Hazeltine Raleigh brought home two younger wives who were sisters; Elizabeth Player and Emily Player. That makes a total of six wives. There are no additional wives mentioned in her history, or Alonzo's for that matter..."

Mormon Pioneer:

"...arrived in July, at, or near the place where we quartered for winter and remained untill the Spring of 1848, dureing which time we were engaged in making a fitout for the farther performance of our journey, which I took up with the opening of Spring in company with my family, Brothern and Sisters, travled a distance of 1050 miles, when we arrived in Salt Lake Valley, where there had ben a City—laid out the year previous by a company of Brothern, I am now in the City of the Great Salt Lake Surrounded with my Brotheren and Sisters, with the comforts of life, having escaped from our enemies, for which I rejoice and thank the Lord, who delivered us—Apr. 30th 1851 A. H. Raleigh..."
