ALTA GAIL SHULTZ was born Nov. 26, 1915 (Thanksgiving Day) in Union, Ia. and died Sept. 8, 2001 in Davenport, Ia. She married CARL HOWARD SWANSON June 22, 1940, son of Carl E. and Mabel (Ahlene) Swanson. He was born March 11, 1915 in Moline, Ill. and died May 23, 2003 in Davenport. Both are buried in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Scott County, Iowa

BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- Alta G. Swanson, 85, a 50-year resident of Blue Grass, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at McGinnis, Chambers & Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Her son, the Rev. Gary Swanson, will officiate. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Alta Shultz was born Nov. 26, 1915, in Union, Iowa, to Link E. and Ada Dee (Montgomery) Shultz. She married Carl H. Swanson on June 22, 1940, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Parsonage in Davenport.
Before her marriage, she was employed at J.C. Penney Co. Inc., Davenport. After her marriage, she was a full-time mother and homemaker.
Alta enjoyed sewing, playing cards, her family and home and preparing food that came from her garden.
Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice, Kahl Home for the Aged or Blue Grass Fire Department.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 61 years, Carl; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Walker, Wilton, Iowa; her sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Gary and Mary Jo Swanson, Union Grove, Wis., Gene and Pam Swanson, Golden, Colo., and Glen and Kathy Swanson, Ankeny, Iowa; her grandchildren and their spouses, Kimeri and Tom Beck, Kory and Jen Swanson, Kari Swanson, Doug and Lori Walker, Scott and Krista Walker, Beth and Justin Shortt, Tim Swanson, and his fiancee, Lisa Moberg, Jill Swanson and Kevin Swanson; her great-grandchildren, Carmin, Theo and Chester Beck and Matt, Payton and Kylee Walker; and a special friend, Lottie Ernst, Bettendorf.

BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- C. Howard "Swede" Swanson, 88, a resident of Blue Grass, Iowa, died Friday, May 23, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. His son, the Rev. Gary Swanson, will officiate. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 1-3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blue Grass Volunteer Fire Department or the Buffalo Volunteer Ambulance Service.
He was born March 11, 1915, in Moline, the son of Carl E. and Mabel (Ahlene) Swanson. He was a 1933 graduate of Buffalo High School. On June 22, 1940, he married Alta Gail Shultz in the parsonage of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Davenport. She preceded him in death Sept. 8, 2001.
Howard was quarry superintendent at the Martin-Marietta Co. of Buffalo, Iowa, retiring in January 1978 after 44 years of service.
He was a former member of Trinity Masonic Lodge and the Mohassan Grotto, both of Davenport. In addition, he was a former member and board member of the Blue Grass Community Club.
Among the things he enjoyed were farming, mechanics and gardening. He loved to play cards with his friends and treasured the times spent with his beloved family.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Walker, of Wilton, Iowa; his sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Gary and Mary Jo Swanson, of Union Grove, Wis., Gene and Pam Swanson, of Golden, Colo., and Glen and Kathy Swanson, of Ankeny, Iowa; his grandchildren, Kimeri Beck and her husband, Tom, Kory Swanson and his wife, Jen, Kari Swanson, Doug Walker, Scott Walker and his wife, Krista, Beth Shortt and her husband, Justin, Tim Swanson and his wife, Lisa, Jill Swanson and Kevin Swanson; his great-grandchildren, Carmin, Theo and Chester Beck, Matt and Payton Walker, Kylee and Trey Walker, and another great-granddaughter expected soon; his sisters, Mabel Jane "Mim" Kauffman, of Davenport, and Gayle Klipping and her husband, Robert, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his brothers, Edward Swanson and his wife, Jane, and Myron Swanson and his wife, Phyllis, all of Davenport; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a very special and close family friend, Lottie McGinnis Ernst, of Bettendorf.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Davis; an infant sister, Joan Swanson; and his parents.
