Alys Genevieve Shaughnessy

Madison - Alys G. Shaughnessy, age 82, formerly of 337 East Sunset Court, Madison, died on Thursday, January 2, 1992 at Middleton Village Nursing Home, following a lengthy decline due to the ravages of Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on December 21, 1909, in Vacherie, Louisiana. She graduated from Business College and began working at Mercy Hospital in New Orleans. She married Rodney J. Shaughnessy on September 29, 1934, in New Orleans, a union which endured 55 years until his death in 1989. Following her move to Madison, she worked for several area employers. Her life and love were focused upon her family and her church. For many years, she played the organ and sang in the church and funeral choirs at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and by her brother, Earl Dicharry. She was a woman of great inner strength and outward charm. Her ready smile radiated warmth, gentleness and love to all she met, She left the world a kinder and better place than she found it. The family would like to especially thank Clevious Gordon and the staffs of Middleton Lodge and Middleton Village for the loving care they extended to Alys and for permitting her to end her days on this earth in dignity. A memorial funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 7th at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison. Friends may call at the church after 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Community Care and Teaching Center, 5501 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705.
