About Amanda Etter Wilson

Amanda Etter (King) "Mandy" Wilson was born on July 30, 1890 near Strunk, McCreary Co. (then Whitley Co.), Kentucky. She was the daughter of Armstead "Armp" King (1864-1938) and Courtney Josephine "Josie" Moses (1872-1962).

Mandy's father, Armp, also born near Strunk, was the son of Thomas Braxton King (1839-1918) and Nancy Blevins (1852-1914). Thomas, a son of Thomas Murray King (1790-1880) and Mary Rebecca Cox (1800-1881), was born in the lower Marsh Creek area of Whitley Co., (now McCreary Co.), Kentucky. Nancy was born in Wayne Co., Kentucky.

Mandy's mother, Josie, was the daughter of Elias "Tiger" Moses (1838-1908) and Sophronia Lovitt (1838-1872). Both of Josie's parents lived their entire lives in the Wolf Creek area of Whitley Co., KY.

Mandy was just 17 when she married 21 year old widower, Harlan Jacob Wilson, on April 15, 1908 in Whitley Co., KY. Harlan's first wife, Oma "Omie" King (1888-1908) and their young son, Luther Wilson (1906-1908), had both died from TB in 1908. Omie was the daughter of Archibald "Arch" King (1861-aft 1900) and Nancy A. Crabtree (1868- ?), and a granddaughter of Enos King (1816-1891) and Nancy Ann Angel (1820-1891). Enos was the second son of Thomas Murray King.

Both of Harlan's wives, Omie King and Mandy King, were great-granddaughters of Thomas Murray King (1790-1880) and Mary Rebecca "Polly" Cox (1800-1881). Thomas was the patriarch of the King family in the McCreary County having migrated to the lower Marsh Creek area about 1819 from Campbell Co., Tennessee.

Harlan and Mandy were married for 57 years and had 12 known children. They are listed in Harlan's memorial.

Mandy died in 1964 at the age of 73. She was the first burial in the Wilson Fairview Family Cemetery located just a short walk from where their home was on White Oak Road.

Mandy picked out the site for the Wilson family cemetery. The cemetery is situated on a hill just behind the little country store (Pine Grove Grocery) that Harlan and built and operated on White Oak Road from 1947 until his death.

Mandy's husband Harlan, age 78, died in 1965, less than a year after his wife's death. He is buried beside her in the Wilson Fairview Cemetery.
