About Amiruddin Tyabji
Youngest of Badruddin Tyabji's brothers. Him and his wife Hamida Begum (D/o Haider Ali Hakim of Surat) were childless and lived at Khetwadi, South Bombay (Current day; Grant Road), where the Tyabji family owned several family plots. They took charge of raising several of the Jama'at (Community's) orphans and under-privileged.
Dr. Salim Moizuddin Ali, the famous birdman of India, was one of them. He was brought up by this maternal uncle, Amiruddin Tyabji. The latter was a keen Shikari (Hunter) and a nature-lover. Under his guidance young Dr. Salim Ali learnt his first lessons in Shikar (Hunt) and became aware of the nature around him. Amiruddin later sent the young boy to the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).
