About Amos Meredith
Biographical Summary
"Sir William Meredith, Baronet [S 1639] of Henbury, grandson and heir, being 1st son and heir of Amos Meredith, by Joanna (married 27 May 1718), daughter of Thomas Cholmondeley, of Vale Royal, co Cheshire, which Amos was only son and heir apparent of the late Baronet, but died v.p. at Bath, 6 May 1744, aged 57. He was born about 1725; matriculated at Oxford (Christ Church) 24 March 1742/3, aged 18, and was created D.C.L., 14 April 1749; succeeded to the Baronetcy, 19 January 1752; was M.P. for Wigan, 1754-61, and for Liverpool, 1761-80, a Lord of the Admiralty, 1765-33; Comptroller of the Household, 1774-77; P.C. 9 March 1774. He sol the estate of Henbury in 1779, and died unmarried at Lyons, in France, 2 January 1790, when the Baronetcy became dormant."
