Notes for Amey Lee:
From Ancestry's Family Data Collection--Individual Records:
Amey Lee, daughter of William Lee and Rebecca Burchett, was born in 1732 in Brunswick County, Virginia. She married William Barrow in about 1750 in Sussex County, Virginia.
Amy and William were married by 5 June 1750, when they witnessed the Baptism/Christening of Rebecca Lee, daughter of Henry Lee Jr. and Elizabeth. .
(Source: Albemarle Parish Register of Surry and Sussex Counties Virginia, 1717-1778", by John Boddie, page 86)
Members of Amy's paternal grandparents line, the Tatums, were shown to be witnesses to other "Lee" baptisms. in this Parish. They obviously lived close to each other.
The following is from a report that was posted by Kelly Leighton on her Ferguson web site. This report was reportedly found in the Brunswick County, Virginia courthouse by a Margaret Edwards. It is a very secondary to tertiary report, and I have not made any effort to find proofs of its accuracy as of this date (April 2003):
"Amy Lee was born about 1732 and was about 18 years old when she married William Barrow who was 22 years old. Amy was the daughter of William Lee and Rebecca Burchett. She grew up on a large 300 acre tobacco plantation on the north side of the Meherrin River in Virginia--in the area of Isle of Wight County that was cut off and became Southampton County in 1794."
Kelly reports that Amy Lee Barrow's father, William Lee of Meherrin Parish, Brunswick County, died in May 1761, leaving a will dated 1759, and named her in his will. She and her sisters, Elizabeth, Ann and Rebecca were bequeathed one Negro named Mason, and all of William's personal property, after the decease of his wife.
Amy's husband, William Barrow was appointed as one of the two executors of the will.
David Barrow, the son of Amy and William, made a tour through Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and parts of Ohio in 1795. He chronicled his travels in a diary, where he reported his visits with family members along his way. He mentions seeing his father and his siblings, but does not mention his mother, Amy. I assume that she died before the summer of 1795.
In the "Barrow Quarterlies" Volume 8, page 60, it is reported that Amey Lee was living when she co-signed a deed on 2 October 1779 (Brunswick Co. VA Deed Book 13: 378). This would give make her death between October 1779 and 1795.
