From infantile paralysis, Amy Philomena Lawrence, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Lawrence, died at their home in McSherrystown at noon, Thursday, aged 8 years, 11 months, and 2 days. She had been ill for five days. She leaves her parents and three brothers, one of whom is only 2 weeks old.
The little girl was the first victim of the disease recorded in Adams County. Where the child contracted the disease is unknown, as neither she nor her parents have been in any of the affected districts, nor had they been in contact with persons from any of those sections. It was apparent from the beginning that the life of the little child could not be saved, although everything known to medical science was done in an effort to counteract the disease. Her illness lasted just 5 days, having been diagnosed last Saturday.
The remains were taken to Conewago Chapel early this morning, where interment was made privately. (Article from The Gettysburg Times Newspaper)
