About Anan Liu
The body of Anan Liu was found eight days after she was strangled to death with a necktie by her husband Nai Yin Xue in the Auckland suburb of Mount Roskill. The couple had married in an Auckland Registry Office on 28 July 2003, and daughter Qian Zun Xue was born on 22 December 2003. Nai had been violent towards Anan since she had given birth to a daughter, and not the son he wanted. She and Qian had fled to a Wellington Women's Refuge and Anan had been granted protection orders against Nai. The couple eventually reconciled, but on 11 September 2007 it took Anan three minutes to die while Nai strangled her to death. He then dumped her body in the boot of his car which was parked outside their Keystone Street home. Nai fled to Australia with three-year-old Qian, before abandoning the terrified child near the base of an escalator at Melbourne's Southern Cross station on 15 September 2007. Authorities initially called Qian 'Pumpkin' after the 'Pumpkin Patch' clothing brand she was wearing when found. Nai had boarded a flight to Los Angeles and was on the run for almost six months through the southern US states of California, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi and, finally, Georgia. Six Chinese immigrants, residents of the Atlanta suburb of Chamblee, realised that Nai was a New Zealand fugitive after seeing a picture of him in the China World Journal. During a dramatic citizens' arrest, they lured him to an apartment where they bravely captured him, knowing he was wanted for murder and had abandoned his child. Gui Sen Wu, a 46-year-old cook, Qing Chen, a 56-year-old sushi chef, and a distant relative, Dong Shun Li, and two others tied his hands and legs with belts and sat on him until Police arrived. Nai was deported to New Zealand to face the charge of murdering Anan. Bio by Debbie McCauley (29 March 2024).
