Life of late Mrs. Maisie Lewis

Born on 2nd March, 1880, Mrs. Maisie Lewis was the daughter of the late Mr.P.P.Joseph a rich plantation conductor and one of the early Christians of South Travancore. Mr. Joseph was a great figure in the social and religious activities of South Travancore Indian Christian community. He was also a prominent deacon of the Home Church for about seventeen years and had contributed liberally to the stability of the Church funds. She got married to Mr. J.Lewis and they had six children.
Mrs. Maisie Lewis was also responsible for the sound upbringing of her children and grand children, along with Mr. Lewis and lived up to the ripe old age of four score and nine years. During her life time she saw the construction and dedication of the Rev.J.Joshua Memorial Church at Henrypuram, Vadasery, which owes its existence to the persuasive efforts of Mrs. Lewis and the donations given by the descendants of Rev.J.Joshua as well as by the NAGERCOIL Church Ladies Missionary Auxiliary. She also had the unique blessing of seeing her great-great-grandchildren.
After the death of her husband Mr.J.Lewis on 20th July, 1940, she had to shoulder the full responsibility of guiding the family through many trials and tribulations. She derived the strength for this through her strong faith in God and untiring daily conversation with Him in Prayers.
Mrs. Maisie Lewis was a staunch Christian lady and never missed a Church Service at the Nagercoil Home Church. She took part in all religious activities connected with the church. She also played a notable part in the growth and stability of the Nagercoil Church Ladies Missionary Auxiliary of which she was the Secretary and Treasurer for over 37 years and exhibited a very high standard of efficiency in keeping its accounts correct to the very pie. She took it as a sacred Christian duty in visiting the bereaved, sharing their grief and consoling them with her kind words and prayers.
Mrs. Maisie Lewis was called to her heavenly home on 22nd June, 1969 and the funeral the same day was attended by a very large number of friends and relatives. The coffin was laid to rest by the side of her husband’s tomb, in the Home Church cemetery.
May her soul rest in peace.
