About Anatoly Raben
As a medical student, Anatoly Raben was arrested in 1948-1949 during Stalin's Anti-Semitic "Anti-Cosmopolitans" campaign. He was released and rehabilitated circa 1955. He progressed with his scientific career to Doctor of Sciences (the next Degree after Ph. D. in USSR, 1970). His area of research Skin Deceases and Skin Cancer. In April-May 1979, together with his whole family, he applied for Exit Visa from USSR. Their application for exit was declined in December 1979 after Soviet invasion to Afghanistan. Subsequently he had to resign from his job of Professor of Medicine and he was stripped from his Scientific Degree. Only in Summer 1987, Anatoly Raben and the most part of his family was allowed to emigrate to Israel. He continued his medical career (as skin doctor) in Petah-Tikva, Israel until very end of 1990s. He died from cancer in 1999 in USA.
