An old record from an old book, "The Smiths of Virginia" by Blanche T. Hartman, pg. 23: The Indian Fighter, Capt. James Carnahan, the elder, came with his brothers, William and Adam Sr., from from County Antrim Ireland to Pennsylvania between 1729 and 1733. They settled on the big bend of the Conodogwinet in what is now Cumberland County
Mary Carnahan is d/o William & Clarrisa Rice Carnahan, G/d of John Carnahan and the GG/d of Andrew Carnahan a Scot who fought in the Revolutionary War. She married Green Maxey 23 Jun 1852. They began raising 4 children when Green suddenly died. The cause of death is not known but one may assume it had something to do with the Civil War. Mary was re-married to George Hall and then again to Peter Irvin.
