About Andrew Corbett
Possibly Korpela.
Andrew anglicised his name once he started working on British ships. The earliest record we have for him is a crew list on a British ship which has him as "Andrew Corpula". Another ship has him as "Andrew Corplea".
Family lore had his Finnish family name as Korpi, but this does not seem to match with the crew records that we have.
Andrew eventually made his way to Australia, arriving in December 1869. He continued to work as a seaman in Australian and South Pacific waters until 1873.
In 1873 he married Eliza Piper. Andrew died in 1875 in an accident, this was just before the birth of his son Andrew John Corbett.
