ACCIDENT NO. 22— February 24, 1909— Andrew Lutinen, S. Hecla Br. of C. & H. Andrew Lutinen died on this day at the C. & H. Hospital where he has been since the 18th day of February, when he received the injuries from which he died.

An inquest was held before Justice Fisher and the following witnesses produced and examined:

John Matheson: "I knew deceased, was working with him when he got hurt on the 18th of the month. We were working at the 61st level north of No. 9 shaft, South Hecla, putting up a piece of timber. Deceased was the boss timberman and I was working in the gang. We were wedging the timber at the foot, the head was already wedged, as we were tightening the wedges at the foot, the timber kicked out. Andrew was on the south side of the timber, it fell and the head fell south. Andrew at the time was pulling a rope down the mill and the timber fell. He was the one who gave us the orders to take down the blocks and wedge up the feet."

August Orth: "I corroborate the testimony of John Matheson."

Verdict: "We, the jury, find that the said Andrew Lutinen came to his death on the 24th day of February, 1909, from injuries received by falling of timber at the 61st level north side of No. 9 shaft, South Hecla Branch of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company, by the above accident that occurred on the 18th day of February, 1909."

Onnettomuus nro 22 — 24. helmikuuta 1909 — Andrew Lutinen, South Hecla Branch, Calumet & Hecla. Andrew Lutinen kuoli tänääm C. & H. sairaalassa missä hän oli ollut hoidettavana 18. helmikuuta asti, jolloin hän sai vammat mihin sitten kuoli.

Tutkintaa johti tuomari Fisher ja seuraavat todistajat kutsuttiin ja kuultiin:

John Matheson: "Tunsin menehtyneen, työskentelin hänen kanssaan, kun hän loukkaantui 18. päivänä. Me olimme työssä pystyttämässä tukipuuta South Hecla -kaivoksessa tasolla 61, pohjoiseen kuilusta nro 9. Menehtynyt oli timpuriryhmän pomo ja minä kuuluin työryhmään. Andrew oli vetämässä köyttä ja puu kaatui. Hän antoi meille määäryksen ottaa alas pölkyt ja kiilata alapää."

Päätös: "Me valamiehistö toteamme, että Andrew Lutinen menehtyi 24. helmikuuta 1909 vammoihinsa, jotka oli saanut kaatuneesta puutavarasta Calumet and Hecla Mining Company:n South Hecla -kaivoksen tasolla 61, pohjoiseen kuilusta nro 9, jossa tuo tapaturma sattui 18. helmikuuta 1909."
