About Andrew Grant Mays

Pfc. Andrew G. Mays, 20-year-old son of Thomas C. and the late Alice Mays, Myerstown, Route 1, is missing in action in the Korean War it was announced today in a War Department communique. The telegram received by his father last week stated that Pfc. Mays, who was attached to the 17th Infantry Regiment, Company C, was reported missing in action on November 26. No details were revealed. Pfc. Mays, who attended Myerstown High School, enlisted in September 1948 and received his basic training at Fort Meade, Maryland. In December 1948 he left from San Francisco for overseas duty, arriving in Japan before going into action in Korea. He is the youngest of nine brothers, six of whom are World War II veterans, and four sisters. His brothers who served in the Army in World War II are Thomas J., Harry, Charles, John, Aaron, and Raymond. The other brothers are Jacob and Allen. His sisters are Mrs. Ardell Smith, Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. Ralph Dassert, all of Myerstown, and Mrs. Harry Sauders, of Schaefferstown. Pfc. Mays is the fourth Lebanon Countian to have been reported missing in action in the Korean War.
