"Andrew M. Nelson was born about 1809 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He probably came to Texas with David Crockett, as they were living in the same area in Tennessee. As he had not married, after he was killed at the Alamo, his mother, Elizabeth "Betsy" Mansfield Nelson, received many land grants in Texas for his service at the Alamo. These grants resulted in the Nelson families coming to Texas. Had it not been for Andrew's death at the Alamo, I would not be here today, as my great grandmother Nelson would not have met my great grandfather Terry. Thank you for your service, Uncle Andrew." "
From Ralph Terry, A Nephew
................................................
His middle initial M. is said to have been Mansfield or Moses. Mansfield was his mother's maiden name. Moses was his uncle's name. I have no proof for either name.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Feb 8 2024, 11:39:13 UTC
