Andrew Jackson Query was born 01/22/1836 in Westmoreland Co., Pa. Andrew crossed the plains from Missouri to California in 1859, with others in a wagon train. He made a second trip across the plains and returned as a scout with a cattle train (date unknown), worked in the California mining/logging areas, then settled in northern California and married Maria J. Farmer in 1869 (Potter Valley, Ca.). Maria's family had come to California from Illinois via ships and the Ismus of Panama. In 1872, Andrew, Maria, and their family (including Clarence) emigrated by boat to Washington Territory. They were one of the first families to homestead in the Puyallup Valley and were contemporaries of Van Ogle, Longmire, and Meeker. Andrew became a successful hop farmer. He was one of the earlier Pierce County road superintendents. Andrew was a teatotaler, but smoked a pipe. Andrew died in 1925 at Enumclaw, WA
