A.Rollin Staley, 61, of Naples,Fla. member of the board of the A.E.Staley Mfg.co.died at midnight Thursday in the Naples Community hospital. Mr.Staley, son of Mr.and Mrs. A.E.Staley Sr, was re-elected to the board of directors of the firm founded by his father, in May. He was first named to the board in 1941. His brother A.E.Staley,Jr,is chairman of the board. In 1956 Mr.Staley resigned as vice president in charge of customer relations, a position held since 1954. His resignation was submited to allow more time to devote to personal business affairs. Mr.Staley had been named sales promotion manager of Staleys in 1950. Prior to that time he had been in Phoenix,Ariz, most of the time since Oct. 1941. While in Phoenix, he had operated the A.R. Staley sales co, a brokerage firm. Before going to Arizona, Mr. Staley had been associated with the family firm for approximately 10 years. At the time of his resignation in Oct. 1941, he was manager of the special products division. During the times Mr.Staley lived in Decatur he was active in civic affairs. Among these was the YMCA of which he served as president, vice president and member of the board. He was also active in Decatur Community Chest and served as drive chairman in 1940 and 1941. Mr. Staley received the Junior Association of Commerce civic service award for his outstanding work as chairman of the drive in 1940. In 1950 he served as industrial division chairman of the Community Chest. Mr.Staley also served as member of the board of directors of the Decatur and Macon county hospital from 1952 to 1957. Aviation was one of Mr. Staleys main interests. His first solo flight was made in 1930 at the old Kiick fielss west of Decatur. He was charter member of the Airplane owners and Pilots Association. In 1954 Mr. Staley was appointed to serve on the Illinois Interim Aviation Commission by Gov. William G. Stratton. Mr. Staley was also a president of Skylark Charter lines. Mr. Staley entered the Army Air Force in 1942. He served as a commandant of cadets at Shaw Field, S.C.and Gila Ben Gunnery Base,Ariz. Mr.Staley was born on May 16,1907 in Baltimore Md,son of A. E.and Emma L.Tressler Staley. His education was received at Staunton,Va. Military Academy, Culver, (Ind) Military Academy, Decatur high school and University of Illinois. He was married to Nettie Lou Salisbury on July 24, 1949. Mr. Staley is survived by his wife. Other survivors include a son,Richard Seth of Los Angeles, Calif, brother A. E.Staley, Jr. of Decatur, sisters, Ione Staley of Miami,Fla, Mrs.Mary Annan of Lake Forest and Mrs.Ruth Richardson Howell of Palm Beach, Fla and one granddaughter. The Staleys had made their home in Naples since 1957. Mr. Staley was a member of the Decatur Club, Country Club of Decatur and a former member of Westminister Presbyterian church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was chairman for the drive for the new community hospital at Naples and a member of the board of directors, member of Beach & Tennis club of Naples, Crane Lake Game Preserve club, Chandlerville, Ill, Wall country club, Royal Poinsettia club and Fort Royale Beach club of Naples, Naples Yacht club, Jonathan club at Los Angeles,Cal. and Metropolitan club in New York. He was an elder in the First Presbyterian church in Naples. The Staleys had given? to the University of Illinois, First Congregational church in Phoenix, Ariz and First Presbyterian church in Naples. Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Saturday in the First Presbyterian church. Services will be at 1 pm Monday in the Dawson & Wikoff funeral home in Decatur. There will be no visitation. There will be private family burial in the Fairlawn Mausoleum. The family suggests contributions may be made to Decatur and Macon county hospital.
