The following newspaper article was printed in a local newspaper in about 1945, and reads as follows: Mrs. Milne Will Celebrate At 96....Mrs. Ann Catherine Jarvis Milne will celebrate her 96th birthday anniversary, Friday, October 27, at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Hamblin, 47 East 48th South Street where Mrs. Milne makes her home. Mrs. Milne is active and gets about considerably. She washes dishes, makes beds and walks all about the block on which she lives. Until just recently she has done a great deal of embroidery work with wool and velveteen, having made pillows for friends, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She attends the movies and enjoys them very much. Her only complaint is that she has outlived all her old friends, but she consoles herself with the fact that she enjoys her new friends immensely. Her great ambition is to live long enough to see peace throughout the world once more. During the past summer she attended the "old folks" party at Liberty park and rode in the parade on the 24th of July. She has been honored in broadcasts over KSL twice in the past year.

Mrs. Milne came to this valley with her parents, George and Ann Prior Jarvis, in the spring of 1860, when she was 11 years old. In the fall of 1861 her folks were called to Utah's Dixie cotton mission and arrived there in December. On March 3, 1870, she was married to David Milne, painter, who did the painting in the Manti and St. George Temples. They raised eight children, five of whom are still living -- Susan Webb, Salt Lake City; Athole Milne, Washington, Utah; D.J. Milne, Whittier, California; Joseph Milne, St. George, and Josephine Hamblin, Murray.

She lost her eyesight several years ago and learned to read Braille at the age of 89. When she was 91 years old she had a cataract removed from her left eye and since that time has enjoyed the use of this eye.

Mrs. Milne has 36 living grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Par of a huge birthday cake which her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Hamblin, will make for her on Friday will be sent to Mrs. Milne's 12 grandsons and one great-grandson serving in various units of the U.S. armed services.

A special guest at Friday's celebration will be Mr. E.O. Hamblin's mother, Mrs. Margaret Hanblin, who will spend the day with Mrs. Milne.
