Anne Eliza Hatchett was born 5 June 1824 in Lunenburg Co., VA to
John Haynie Hatchett (see #122) and Frances Tanner Jones (#123).
On 23 Nov 1841, she married Col. Henry Stokes. They had about 9 children
(7 listed by Bell II, p. 357; 9 listed by Richmond T-D):

Anne Eliza HATCHETT Stokes and Col. Henry Stokes moved to Farmville, Prince
Edward Co., VA from Lunenburg Co. between 1856-1860 (indicated by birthplaces
of their children). The couple died in Farmville, he on 25 March 1900 (at 79
years of age), and she on 31 Oct 1918 (at 94 years of age). They are buried at
Hampden-Sydney Cemetery in Prince Edward Co., VA.
Copies of their photographs were given to this writer by their descendant,
Judy STOKES Barnes. The writer also has a copy of Haynie Family history
researched by Clayton Torrence, in which he refers to a letter sent to him by
Mrs. Ann E. HATCHETT Stokes on 30 April 1913 (when she was nearly 89 years of
age), giving Hatchett family history.
JMS Howe has a Bible on the flyleaf of which is written: "Sallie M. Bagley
from Her affect. cousin Sallie F. Stokes Aug. 22.1889 'Take ye Heed, watch and
pray: for ye know not when the time is.' Mark 13.33" On the back of that page
Virginia MABEN Stokes wrote: "Given to Marshall G. Stokes by his mother-in-law
Jennie Hite Maben 1940" Judy STOKES Barnes stated in 1995, "I have checked
dates and Sallie F. Stokes could have been Sallie Frances Stokes, the youngest
of Ann Eliza and Col. Henry Stokes children." (Sallie Frances Stokes was born 6 Sept 1860 in Prince Ed. Co., VA. She was unmarried, re: notes by Peggy HARRISON Austin in Charlotte, NC.) Sallie Montfort BAGLEY Rose is cousin who gave SMB pin to Jennie HITE Maben.
