About Ann Logan Stuart

Annie was born on March 22, 1878, the youngest of six children born to Nathaniel & Emily Tucker Kirkpatrick Douglass. Annie grew up in the Maywood area of Lincoln County, Kentucky. Her mother died when she was just one year old. Her father Nathaniel died in 1898, when Annie was twenty. Annie moved to Arkansas after her father's death, to live with her uncle, James Barnes Douglass, who resided in Drew County.

Annie married Thomas David Stuart on September 24, 1909, in Louisville, Kentucky. Tom was born on August 29, 1874, in Johnsville, Bradley County, Arkansas. He grew up in Bradley County, one of six children born to Thomas Henry & Amanda Jane (Thomas) Stuart. Tom had married McCaulley Morgan in about 1899. They resided in Wilmar, Drew County, Arkansas, and were the parents of two children, Henry Wilson Stuart and Van E. Stuart. McCaulley died on March 31, 1909, when her sons Van and Wilson were only 5 and 8 years old.

Tom and Annie began their married life residing in Warren and then Fordyce, Arkansas. Tom is enumerated on the 1910 census as being a retail grocery merchant in Warren, Bradley County, Arkansas. He was later hired to run a store in Ankeny, Polk County, Iowa. The family moved to Iowa in about 1914, and resided there for several years. By 1920, Tom and Annie had relocated to Pine Bluff, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Tom was manager of the company store for the Arkansas Oak Flooring company in Pine Bluff. He also had his own business, Stuart Mercantile, in Warren and Pine Bluff.

Tom and Annie were the parents of one child, a daughter Maxine.
