Notes
a. Note: Ann Waddy was born in Louisa Co VA and grew up there. Her father died in 1764 when she was about 14 years old. Her mother probably also died about the same time. It is not known who cared for Ann during the remainder of her youth. It is possible that she lived with her older brother John Waddy until he married. John died after being married a few years and then during the next few years, her siblings died until only Ann and her sister Elizabeth were left in 1780. Ann's brother Samuel Waddy (born c1758) served as a sergeant in the Continental Line. He died unmarried and in his will of 1780, he left his estate to his sister Ann. The Virginia Land Office has a record which states, "It is advised that the heirs of Samuel Waddy be allowed land bounty for 3 years service as a sergeant in the Continental Line. A warrant for 200 acres No. 6731 issued to William Nelson Jr. who married Mary Garland Thompson, sole heir of Ann Waddy, who was the sole devise of Samuel Waddy deceased and delivered to William Nelson Jr. See voucher filed." The date of this record is 1827. About 1770 at age 20, Ann married Nelson Thomson. Their daughter Mary Garland Thomson is named in the above document. It is curious that Ann is referred to by her maiden name (perhaps to make the connection to Samuel Waddy) rather than her married name of Ann Waddy Thomson.
