About Anna 'Annie' Maud Wilson
Granddad's(Gordon) father, Anna's husband, was in the Merchant Navy, and was 41 when their last child, Gordon. Anna was 39.
Grandad claimed that his sister Alice brought him up(he was 20 years her junior) and presumably she was a mother figure to him, as well as his own mum.
Grandad and Herbert both tell stories that Anna was possibly 'mentally ill' and kept running off, sometimes for days on end, and was even subject to brain surgery or an operation of some sort. She had to visit a hospital in London, and would hitch a ride in a lorry there and back, and would even slept on a bench at Liverpool Street Station, presumably to avoid paying for accommodation.
