About Anna Marie Auer

Obituary: Norstern Newspaper, Stearns County, Minnesota, 10 June 1909

At the home of her living son John Auer 2 miles north of here, on Thursday evening last week Frau John Auer one of the first female settlers in Stearns County, after long suffering from dropsy. Because she produced and tolerated the Holy Will of God and took advantage of the preparation for death she parted from this life. Mrs. Auer was 78 years old and born in Espersingen (sic), Baden, Germany. Here [Germany] in 1851 she married John Auer and one year later emigrated to America. In 1866 the couple came to Minnesota and after a long journey/walk from St. Cloud to Albany where they settled on the present day George Falkner farm and stayed 20 years. Then the family moved to the John Newirth farm where in 1887 the husband died. Later she sold her farm and lived domestically with her son Karl in Albany until she found a welcome residence with her son John where she lived until her death. Along with her sons Karl and John mourning the death of the good mother is George M., and Joseph from here and Mrs. Joseph Weitzel from Melrose, Mrs. Joseph Hoffmann and Mrs. Julius Hoffmann from here. Mourning her death also are 47 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. After Thursday morning services the burial took place with many in attendance.

Note: Death certificate of daughter, Anna Auer [Joseph] Hofmann lists the maiden name of her mother as Anna M. Bauknecht, not Schwartz. Informant recorded as John Auer.
