Descent of the Lands of Carleton and Killochan 1540-1703

Papers of the Cathcart Family of Carleton and Killochan: Carleton and Killochan (from 1540.) Robert Cathcart of Carleton, who married Elizabeth Corrie and died about 1560. John Cathcart of Carleton, his eldest son, who married Helen Wallace, completed the house of Killochan, and died 1612. John Cathcart of Carleton, his eldest son, who married Rebecca Lokhart [Lockhart] and died 1633. Mr. Hew Cathcart, Tutor of Carleton, his second son. Hew Cathcart of Carleton, grandson of the above John, who married Grizel Agnew and died 1677. John Cathcart of Carleton, his eldest son, who married Annabella Maxwell, without issue, and died 1679. Hew Cathcart, second son of the above Hew, who succeeded his brother, was created a baronet 1703, and married Anne Broun [Brown], with issue. He resigned all his lands to the Crown for re-grant, being resolved "to alter and change the holding", and the series of titles concludes with his new charter of 29 March 1703.
