About Anna Cromwell

Anna was the wife of John Cromwell of Harrison Purchase, Westchester Co., NY. He was born Dec. 5, 1727, the eldest son of James Cromwell. John was an active patriot during the American Revolutionary War. His house was invaded by British allies and he was tortured when he refused them money. He died in 1805 at the age of 78.

The family were Quakers and lived near Rye Pond, a short distance from the Friends' meeting-house in the Purchase. As of 1870, their house was still standing.
