About Anna Liza Denney
Anna was the daughter of Scarborough Freeman Pentecost and Elizabeth Vaden.
Anna Liza Pentecost and Edward Carroll Denney were married 20 Jan. 1886 in Dresden, Weakley, Tennessee.
In the 1900 census enumerated on 25 June 1900, the family was living in Courtney, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, where Anna reports having born 5 children and 5 are living. However, from family records, it is known that she actually bore 7 children and 2 of them had died before 1900.
Family records report her date of birth as Jan 1868, but in the 1900 census, it is listed as January 1865. From a "Memory Card" in possession of family members, it is stated that Anna died August 25, 1900 in Marietta, Love County, Oklahoma which was in the Chickasaw Nation Indian Territory at the time. No burial location has been found for her.
The memory card also reports that burials were purchased for Anna and her two children by E C Denny, but it does not state where.
Notes from LindaBell167 regarding Edward Denney's younger years and his marriage to Anna, including information about some of their children:
"Edward married and came to Indian Territory with his family. He and Anna (Pentecost) had seven children, the youngest was Lula born 11 May 1899 and Anna would die 25 of August 1900. Edward unable to care for his youngest children gave Ruthey, Mollie and Lula to others to raise. Mollie would cry and finally Edward would have to bring her home. Ruthey died (unknown) at the age of 3, Lula was raised by Edwards older (1/2 brother) William LaFayette (Uncle Bill and Aunt Nan). She too died young, while riding a horse, a man came out from under a bridge and it spooked the horse and she fell off she died 7 Mar 1907 and buried in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Bill and Nan at Wolf City, Hunt, Texas."* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 8 2023, 22:17:51 UTC
