Anna Maria Geyer (1937 - 2006)

Brief overview:

Anna (69) was murdered on her farm De Doorn, in Sterkstroom, Eastern Cape on the afternoon of 16th June 2006. She was tied up and gagged, and stabbed with sharp objects (panga and knife), and her was throat slit. She was found in the chicken coop. A farmworker, Douglas Tshoki (53), was tied up with wire and gagged with rags. Anna's husband, Wikus (70), heard her screams and rushed to the farmhouse, said police spokesperson superintendent Gcinikaya Taleni.

Nothing was stolen, but robbery as motive for the murder is not excluded.

Two suspects, aged 19 and 21, were arrested.

According to Nico Smuts, Agri EC, the suspects had told Tshoki they were waiting for Geyer to arrive home so that they could get money from him and kill him. The couple was childless and their farm had been offered for sale to the department of land affairs for restitution purposes.

  • "The perpetrators attacked Anna with the panga-like object and knife with a shocking degree of viciousness and brutality. The cause of her death is recorded in the post-mortem examination report as being ‘shock and haemorrhage following extensive injuries to the head and face."
