On May 17, 1974, "The Southeast Missourian" newspaper of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, published the following obituary of "MRS. RUSSELL HIBBS":
"Mrs. Russell R. Hibbs, 12 North Middle, died this morning at St Francis Hospital. She was 85 years old. The former Miss Anna Schuler, Mrs Hibbs was born July 3, 1888, in Mound City, III. She married Mr. Hibbs on Feb. 26, 1913, in Mound City. Mrs. Hibbs was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Wimodausis Class. She had lived in Cape Girardeau for 51 years, moving from Cairo, Ill.
"Surviving: her husband; a son, Russell Hibbs, who is serving with the State Department in North Africa, daughters, Mrs. Anna Louise Webb, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Helen Nothdurft, St. Louis: brothers, John Schuler, Cape Girardeau, Walter Schuler, Tulsa, Everett Schuler, Mound City, and Robert Schuler, Flint, Mich., sisters, Mrs. Mary Parker, Mound City, Mrs. Jessie Hess, Centralia, Mrs. Alma McKay, California, and Mrs. Agnes Crippen, Mounds, Ill., 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
"Friends may call after 2 Saturday afternoon at Ford and Sons Funeral Home. Service will be held at the funeral home Sunday afternoon at 1:30. The R. J. Ray Trotter, pastor of Centenary United Methodist Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Memorial Park."
